We seek to provide a very basic, yet important, human need:
REST, for anyone, anytime, and anywhere.
Everyone could benefit from a little REST
Where you need it most.
Students.
Daytime sleepiness, sleep deprivation, and irregular sleep schedules are highly prevalent among college students, as 50% report daytime sleepiness and 70% attain insufficient sleep. The consequences of sleep deprivation and daytime sleepiness are especially problematic to college students and can result in lower grade point averages, increased risk of academic failure, compromised learning, impaired mood, and increased risk of motor vehicle accidents.
Healthcare.
Poor sleep quality, stress, and mental health problems among healthcare workers could impair their cognitive abilities and their clinical decision-making. Thus, increasing the likelihood of making medical errors that may increase the risk to patients. The America Insomnia Survey estimates sleep deprivation costs the US workforce approximately $65 billion in productivity in past years.
Travelers.
Microsleeps are especially dangerous for drivers because of the short time it takes to make a serious mistake at the wheel. If you doze for 3 seconds while going 60 miles per hour, you can travel 300 feet in the wrong direction. This can put you off the road or into an opposing lane of traffic. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration predicts around 100,000 police-reported crashes per year are caused by drowsy drivers.
The problem continues…However, a solution is here…
A decade ago, “sleep aid” was synonymous with sleeping pills, but these days, medication only makes up 65% of the market. The last three years have seen an explosion of other types of products designed to help people to fall asleep more easily and stay asleep longer.
Initially, many of these sleep tools were tech gadgets, including sleep trackers, apps, lights, and noisemakers, many of which we’ve tested at one time or another. More recently however, trends have shifted toward more comfort-centric products like weighted blankets, temperature regulating duvets, and pillows with built-in hoods to block out light and keep the sleeper’s head warm.
Seemingly, in today’s modern world where people are plagued with sleeplessness and lack adequate sleep options, the simple experience of falling and staying asleep has become something of a luxury.
However, there’s good news for the weary:
We’re now living in the golden age of technology where new and amazing innovations are being created every day.
“Here at Micro Sleep we’re striving to develop new sleep solutions for a new world on the go. By studying the effects of sleep deprivation we’ve opened up the amazing possibilities of what sleep can be, all the while enabling getting rest in public spaces to be quick and painless.”
